We all have the right to a safe working environment (2010)

With the aim of supporting the implementation of Occupational H&S Strategies in the Republic of Serbia for the period from 2009 to 2012 and the improvement of workers’ H&S, during 2010, the Centre implemented the "We all have the right to a safe working environment" project. 

Set objectives: 

• Determining the scope of implementing legal obligations on passing the Work Environment Risk Assessment Act through researching 100 companies; both large and small enterprises in 6 regions throughout Serbia 
• Accelerating the adoption of the Law on Insuring Against Work-related Injury and Occupational Disease to ensure compensation, which would introduce the obligation of employers to insure their workforce against work-related injuries and occupational diseases by establishing a specific fund 
• Encouraging greater involvement of the unions (at the national and local level, as well as at the level of individual companies) in applying pressure on employers to accelerate the adoption and monitoring of the implementation of the Risk Assessment Act. 

Key results: 

• A survey was conducted in 100 companies throughout Serbia on the issues relating to the adoption and implementation of the Risk Assessment Act, in collaboration with the Occupational H&S Committee. 
• The results of the research were published and presented to MPs of the National Assembly and to other decision-makers.
• In Belgrade, Novi Sad, Niš and Kragujevac, 4 round tables were organised, where the results of the research were presented along with a discussion on the necessity of the immediate adoption of the Law on Insuring Against Occupational Injury. 
• A series of expert copyrighted texts on Occupational Health and Safety were published in daily newspapers with the goal of introducing and encouraging both the expert and the general public regarding this subject.
• The "European Occupational H&S Week" was marked by the distribution of marketing material to the people of Belgrade.
