Vučković: The main issue is whether transitioning out of poverty is sustainable

Secretary General of the CDF during the COSMO WDR podcast

Secretary General of the Center for Democracy Foundation, Nataša Vučković said that poverty in Serbia runs deep and that the key question is whether transitioning out of poverty is sustainable.

“We must observe those who are most vulnerable. In this regard, the 2030 Agenda offers many opportunities as its main target is the eradication of poverty by 2030”, said Vučković during the COSMO WDR podcast.

At the Center for Democracy Foundation, we insist on ‘walking a mile in the shoes’ of those we speak with and to really try to understand where they are coming from. All data indicate that poverty runs deep and that it is very difficult to transition out of.

Government representatives are extremely hesitant when it comes to discussing poverty. Economic growth is important, and there are positive trends but the main issue is whether transitioning out of poverty is sustainable.

The state has failed to adopt a strategy to combat poverty, as well as other strategies that are vital if we are to buckle down and tackle these serious issues. The crisis will have major consequences, inflation, rising energy costs, transport costs and ultimately the cost of other goods will rise, and this will have the greatest impact on those who are most poverty stricken.
