CDF: We insist on adherence to decent work standards
We must combat all forms of discrimination in the workplace and those which are work-related; contribute to greater gender equality, recognise and regulate unpaid labour, and eradicate child labour.
Ahead of World Day for Decent Work, the Center for Democracy Foundation reminds us that labour rights are an integral part of the human rights framework and must be respected and protected in the same manner.
The Republic of Serbia has ratified international agreements committing to take all necessary measures to ensure that employees have a dignified standard of living.
Economic growth has not been accompanied by an increase in the standards of decent work, which, according to the UN 2030 Agenda’s Sustainable Development Goals, is something that we should be working on. Goal 8 of the SDGs, titled 'Economic Growth and Decent Work,' signifies that there is no sustainable economic growth without decent work.
The protection of labour rights is important, especially in the context of Serbia's accession negotiations with the EU, requiring alignment of legislation and institutional practices with EU standards. The people of Serbia need a more equal-opportunity environment and better protection. This includes better social protection with a more efficient social inclusion policy and workers should not have to face discrimination in the workplace. We must fight against all forms of discrimination in the workplace and in relation to work, contribute more to gender equality, expose and regulate unpaid labour, and eradicate child labour.
