CDF Calls for Urgent and Professional Investigation into Use of Unidentified Weapon Against Peaceful Protesters
Press release issued by the Center for Democracy Foundation
The Center for Democracy Foundation (CDF) is calling for an urgent and professional investigation into the use of an unidentified weapon against peaceful protesters during the demonstration held in Belgrade on 15 March 2025. Given that the Ministry of Interior and the Serbian Armed Forces have both denied responsibility and stated they did not deploy an acoustic weapon, they are obliged to inform the public what type of weapon was used and who used it. The attack, which caused injuries and alarm among citizens, represents a serious security incident, and we expect the relevant authorities to establish all facts in accordance with the law and prosecute those responsible.
Failure to act on this issue would further undermine the already fragile public trust in institutions and the rule of law. Every government bears the responsibility to protect its citizens and their fundamental rights. The lack of clear answers surrounding this incident creates space for insecurity, fear, and impunity. We expect the competent institutions to fulfil their duty and ensure truth and justice.
