CDF: Decent Work Is a Human Right, Not a Privilege
Statement of the Center for Democracy Foundation on the Occasion of the World Day for Decent Work
We insist on the adoption of a new Labor Law aligned with the EU acquis, on the implementation of reform activities defined in the Reform Agenda, on the urgent regulation of new forms of work, on the application of the Youth Guarantee, and on the adoption of strategic documents governing issues in the fields of labor, employment, and social policy
On the occasion of the World Day for Decent Work, the Center for Democracy Foundation draws attention to the growing challenges faced by workers in Serbia and emphasizes that decent work is a human right, not a privilege.
Decent work entails secure and fairly paid jobs, protection of workers’ rights, safe and healthy working conditions, the possibility of trade union organization, equality, and protection against discrimination. Unfortunately, in Serbia, a large number of citizens continue to work in insecure jobs, with low incomes, at risk of poverty, and with limited access to mechanisms for protecting their rights.
The Center for Democracy advocates for the harmonization of labor legislation and institutional practices with the standards of the European Union (EU) and the International Labour Organization (ILO), in order to ensure conditions for a decent life and work for all citizens of Serbia. We insist on halting the fragmentation of labor legislation in Serbia and on adopting a new, comprehensive Labor Law. It is essential to implement the reform measures defined in the Reform Agenda, to urgently regulate new forms of work, to apply the Youth Guarantee, to strengthen social dialogue, and to adopt strategic documents that regulate issues in the areas of labor, employment, and social policy.
