Human Rights for All – the Foundation of a Democratic Society
Press Release on the Occasion of International Human Rights Day
The Center for Democracy Foundation extends its congratulations to all citizens of Serbia on the occasion of International Human Rights Day!
Human rights shape our everyday lives; therefore, respect for the rights, freedoms, and dignity of every individual is the basis for building a modern, democratic, and well-ordered society in which the citizens of Serbia wish to live.
Serbia must implement genuine reforms of the state and society in order to move closer to the standards of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law enjoyed by citizens of developed countries in Europe and around the world. In accession to the European Union, we see even greater guarantees for the protection of human rights in Serbia.
It is of crucial importance to strengthen democratic institutions, improve parliamentarianism, democratic political culture, and media freedom, to ensure that citizens can freely express their opinions and participate in decision-making processes in their communities.
We remind that human rights are universal, interconnected, interdependent, and that all rights – political, civil, social, economic, and cultural – must be protected and respected! That no one should be left behind, without access to education, health services, and social care. We must devote attention to every person and provide them with protection. This is a society in which equality, rights, and the dignity of all are respected.
